Engine No. 2531

This 1922 example is an exceptionally early car and is believed to be a model CC15. Right-hand drive, as were all Amilcars of this era, it has very unusual coachwork that is believed to have been made in Nantes in the 1930s. The engine number is 2531 which is also stated to be the chassis number of the car as recorded on the 1980 Certificat d'Immatriculation which accompanies it. The vendor believes that the car is fitted with an 1100cc engine but it was more common for the CC to have a 903cc unit. Unusually for its time, the car has brakes to both the front and rear wheels, possibly fitted later in its life but also sometimes found on early cars specially modified by the factory for competition use.

Still registered on French plates (9818QP16) this car is said to have regularly taken part in the Circuit des Remparts at Angouleme from 1980 to 1994 and is said to be in good running order. The car was purchased by the current vendor in 2000 from the well-established French dealer, Christian Decombas in Lezoux. The previous recorded keeper was Costes Marcel of Isle d'Epignac. The vendor has also been told that this car was used in the promotion of a Tintin film or publication of some sort, but we have not been able to verify this.

Although the car has been started and run regularly in the current ownership, it has not been driven any distance and some precautionary recommissioning may be required before it can be pressed back into service. Altogether a most interesting and unusual car that would merit further investigation.
